Moses Basket with Rocking Stand

I am in love with Moses Baskets.  They represent for me a time when furniture was simple and classic. Moses baskets have the advantage having a removable basket, as well as not taking up much space.  Baskets and rockers come in all shapes and sizes, which is a plus.

The other option is what is called “at arms reach” and attaches itself to the side of the bed, so baby feels near you.  They seem a bit cumbersome, and very much like a pak-n-play, but close to you never the less.

Updated Traveler Systems!

Technology isn’t the only thing that is constantly changing and improving…children’s products have taken on a life of it’ own in recent years.  Last year I put up my favorite traveler system (which was the jogger), but that has since changed!  I have had the luxury of using the B.O.B on a regular basis and it is truly splendid.  High marks for maneuverability, safety, and durability, this stroller is top notch for the price.  It also comes with an attachment that you can put any infant carrier in.

My second favorite stroller is truly for the planned family.  Phil and Teds double strollers are truly fantastic-even if you only have one!  Most definitely not your traditional double stroller, you will be surprised at the ease you can use this.  Even if you only have one child, its set up is so usable for groceries, diaper bag, etc…

IKEA is not only affordable and modern, but their children’s line of toys is wonderful!  Made from wood and non toxic paint, these toys are wonderful for the family who wishes to raise their child “batteries not included” and are just great, simple toys overall!

The Leksvik crib from IKEA is by far the best crib for the money (as well as space saving) that has come along.  It’s not as mammoth as some of the others, but not a small crib by any means either.  It also converts into a toddler bed!  IKEA $159. www. ikea.com

Black Baby Body Suits! (AKA, the Onesie)

I’ve never understood why children’s clothes have to be so gaudy!  I have searched high and low for some regular standard onesies and try as I might I have not been able to find “normal” colored infant onesies.  Although I did find the elusive “black body suit” (the onesie) as well as some other cute items at American Apparel.

And this is just a real cute picture from www.daddytypes.com

Robeez Round-up!

Robeez  (www.robeez.com) was founded by a laid off mother in 1994 with instant success.  Their unique elastic band, and soft leather sole are so great for young “wobblers”.  Throughout the years I have persistenly been on the lookout for something better, but have yet to run across anything as truly awesome as Robeez.  The same pair of Robeez slippers can be worn for up to six months depending on how quickly your child’s foot grows.

Baby Legs for Baby Warmth!

When I first spotted the the Baby Legs leg warmer (www.babylegs.com), I thought it to be a ridiculous idea.  Leg warmers for a baby?  One day I was working a nanny job and had baby in a cute pair of short overalls.  When I decided to go for a walk in cold weather, I was faced with the dilemma of changing his entire outfit.  After some rummaging for long socks I came across some baby leg warmers.  It was like the heavens shined down on me and bestowed me with this awesome product.  I put baby legs on baby, pulled them all the way up his thighs and let the short overalls hand over them.  I grabbed some socks, shoes and sweater and off we were.  Hands, down, my favorite product.

To Genie or Not to Genie?

In almost every house I walk in, there are diaper genies.  It goes with the territory.  In almost every case, upon walking into the children’s room, the parent says,”Oh, I need to change that diaper genie.  It smells in here!”.  It doesn’t matter if it needs to be changed, or was just changed, the diaper genie has a hanging odor that can be nauseating at times.  If you want to avoid this, I would purchase a regular old trashcan, line it with a kitchen bag, and wrap up those poopie diapers in a plastic bag.  The room may smell for a short period, but at least you control when to dispose of those diapers.  Additionally, taking out the baby “garbage” is much easier than changing a diaper genie!

The Ultimate Stroller: The Baby Jogger Travel System!

It’s been my experience that most families accrue three strollers over the span of the first year or so:  The first stroller is the big bulky one that new parents purchase before baby has arrived.  By six months of age, once baby has outgrown infant seat, parent’s start to dread taking out that bulky stroller-it’s hard to maneuver, difficult to store, and just a pain in the neck for quick trips.  They soon abandon the dinosaur in favor of a more streamlined stroller, a step above the basic umbrella stroller, perhaps.  While this stroller serves all their needs,  something is missing-it is lacking that versatility they need. The last stroller purchased inevitably seems to be the jogger.  It’s great for active people, easy to store and fold down, and is cozy for child.

I say cut to the chase and purchase the Jogger Travel System by baby Trend.  It has great versatility, and it will most likely be the only stroller you will ever purchase.  For   $195.00 it saves you space and money!

Bottle Warmer vs Electric Tea Kettle

My experience with bottle warmers is they generally seem to be a waste of space, not to mention they don’t seem to work most of the time.  I suggest you skip the bottle warmer, and purchase an electric tea kettle.  An electric tea kettle allows you to put either tap or purified water in it, and when you are ready to  prepare baby’s bottle, (either by thawing breast milk, or preparing formula, hot water is ready in less than one minute!

While you’re at it, pour yourself a cup of tea! And now, you haven’t wasted your money and space on a strictly “for baby” item!

Electric tea kettles range from $20-$80.  Target has a wide, decently priced selection. www.target.com
